Utility Model - Protection Abroad
The first German utility model application provides the opportunity to gain protection abroad within the term of one year from the date of application. This term of one year cannot be adapted. Not every country, however, allows a protective right in the form of a utility model. As a consequence, it is possible to file an application for a patent on the basis of a utility model application.
There are various international treaties (e.g. the European Patent Convention [abbr.: EPC] or the Patent Cooperation Treaty [abbr.: PCT]) which provide international protection. Our attorneys are authorized by the respective offices to take action within the scope of these treaties.

By having international communication lawyers at our disposal, even a national application can be initiated in any country. We have maintained business connections with some of our colleagues abroad for more than 40 years.
We prepare all the necessary documents and translations and arrange for transfer and filing in time. Moreover, we duly remind you of all necessary steps during the granting procedure and prepare the requests and information required.
